Cooler Master's new CM 690 chassis takes case ventilation to the extremes with its meshed design that allows unhindered airflow in and out of the chassis. This is then bolstered by the support of up to seven system cooling fans, though we doubt few users would reach that limit. As it is, the three existing pre-installed 120mm cooling fans are in our opinion, sufficient for proper system vetilation while its low noise output is something we can appreciate more readily than a minute drop in temperatures. Other useful features that will lead to cooler case temperatures include having cable management tools to reduce the clutter and streamline the airflow. Placing the PSU at the bottom also separates the warmer PSU from the usual thermal hotspots from an ATX motherboard design like the processor and chipset. Finally, the tool-free movement continues to flourish, going by the number of tool-free mechanisms found on this chassis.

Overall, the Cooler Master CM 690 has some nifty features that benefit enthusiasts looking to fit a whole battalion of cooling fans into a chassis. Cable management looks promising while the tool-free mechanisms are always welcome. It doesn't hurt too that the meshed design works from an aesthetic point of view, especially clad in black.

Hi-techreviews - Technical Excellence

Overall I was very happy with the result of the test, the five 120mm fans did an outstanding job of keeping the case temperature down where it should be  and with a better heatsink the the CPU temperatures would have be significantly better.

This is one nice mid-tower.  While the case has a ton going for it, it could be a little better.  There is no removable motherboard tray and the case is made of heavy steel.  Those are very small complaints when you look at the case as a whole.  A big plus for this case is it will fit 2 8800GTX's in SLI.  I have an 8800GTS installed and you can see all of the extra room available.  This case is also designed for nice airflow while keeping the noise down.  The HDD trays have rubber grommets to eliminate noise causing vibration and the power supply opening is lined with a rubber gasket to do the same.  The large 120mm fans will move more air at less RPMs then a 80mm fan.  This will also cut your noise level down.  Even the large rubber feet will help keep the noise level down.  Overall this is a very nice case loaded with features that you'd find on much more expensive cases.  Club Overclocker Recommended!

The elegant lines and clean design are very pleasing to the eye and black mesh does an excellent job of enhancing the look and satisfying a functional purpose of free airflow.  External connectivity is handled by the top mounted ports and cover all of the major options including USB, FireWire, eSATA, and the standard headphone and microphone jacks.

Cooling has also been taken care of with options for 8 cooling fans. 4 will accept 140mm fans while the remaining varies between 120 and 80mm units. The case comes with 3 120mm fans pre-installed which are more than enough for any enthusiast. The numerous fan placements also mean that watercooling is an easy next step without having to do a bunch of modifications.

Combine those things with quality construction and you have a case anybody can be proud of.

Good Things :

Clean lines
Elegant style
Metal cooling mesh
Low resistance stamped fan grills (mounts)
Badass Black case color
Tool less design
No Window
